Update on 2023 CMPP™ Program and Policy Changes

WEBINAR OVERVIEW:
The CMPP™ Program, governed by the ISMPP Certification Board, ensures that CMPP credential holders demonstrate expertise and integrity as medical publication professionals. CMPPs are committed to ethical and transparent publication practices that protect the public and the profession.

The policies of the CMPP Program must continually evolve to accommodate the everchanging environment of our profession. Accordingly, there will be changes to CMPP Program policies and procedures in 2023 that CMPPs should be aware of.

At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

Know the duration of the certification cycle beginning in 2022
Understand the updated content outline for the CMPP exam
Be familiar with new exam fees and their rationale

Amy Foreman-Wykert, PhD, ISMPP CMPP™ Executive Director, Global Publications Amgen

Amy has over 15 years of experience as a medical publication professional. She first joined Amgen as a medical writer in 2007 and currently leads the Global Publications department at Amgen. In this role, she oversees the team that provides the strategic planning and tactical execution of scientific publications for Amgen’s pipeline and marketed products, as well as guidance and training on publication compliance and best practices.

Amy has been an ISMPP volunteer for several years. She started as a member of the Standards Committee for 5 years and was Co-Chair for the combined Ethics and Standards Committee for an additional year. She then served on the ISMPP Board of Trustees as Trustee at Large from 2019 - 2022, and during this time was the Board of Trustees’ representative on the ISMPP Certification Board. She has been CMPP certified since 2015 and currently serves on the ISMPP Recertification Committee. Amy received her undergraduate degree from Mount St. Mary’s University – Los Angeles and her PhD in Basic Medical Sciences from the Vilcek Institute at New York University.
Dana Fox, PhD, ISMPP CMPP™ SVP, Portfolio Director Caudex

Dana has over 14 years of medical communications and scientific publishing experience and is currently SVP, Portfolio Director for Caudex, based in the United States. In this role, she provides high-level strategic, commercial, operational, and financial insight combined with account leadership of client services and scientific services teams. She effectively manages and coaches her team to ensure excellence in product delivery across the communication mix. She is also responsible for promoting best practice across client accounts ensuring operational effectiveness. Dana has led communication and publication planning activities in several therapy areas including oncology, immunology, cardiology, virology, neurology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, and metabolism. Dana obtained her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Massachusetts and Virginia Tech. She has been a Certified Medical Publication Professional since 2010, served as Chair of the Recertification Committee, and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the ISMPP Certification Board.
Megan Weigel, ISMPP CMPP™, Publication Advisor Specialist, Bristol-Myers Squibb

Megan Weigel is the Publication Advisor Specialist at Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), where she provides guidance to colleagues on company and industry publication policies, procedures, SOPs, and best practices. Megan has held roles in medical communication agencies, providing project management support to diverse pharmaceutical and biotech clients in a range of therapeutic areas since 2014. Throughout her career, Megan has developed training materials and implemented training sessions to new employees as part of larger efforts to provide education on industry and pharmaceutical best practices. She also has experience creating content, SOPs, and training guides that have been successfully used for employee onboarding and promoting adherence to GPP.

Megan is ISMPP CMPP™ certified, and is a mentor for the CMPP Mentorship Program, where she continues to provide guidance to many publication professionals as they prepare to take the CMPP credentialing exam. Megan also serves as Chair of the ISMPP Certification Board and is a CMPP exam item writer and exam reviewer. Megan currently leads an initiative within BMS that encourages colleagues to gain CMPP certification and provides direct mentorship opportunities to interested employees. Megan holds a BA in Organizational Communication from SUNY New Paltz.
Danita Sutton, PhD, ISMPP CMPP™, Director, Credentialing, International Society for Medical Publication Professionals

Danita is Director of Credentialing at the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP). In her past, she has served as Chair of the Certification Board, and is proud to have been among the subject matter experts who developed the first ISMPP CMPP certification exam. She joined the ISMPP staff in April 2019 after a 20-year career in the medical communications and publications industry, where over the years she held the positions of medical writer, medical director, and medical communications consultant for her own company Proficiency Science. She earned a BA in Biochemistry from Smith College and a PhD in Pharmacology from Yale University. She has held the ISMPP CMPP™ credential since 2009.
