  • Bill Stone, Senior Research Project Manager | Arizona DOT

    Bill Stone oversaw the Research that is being presented in this study.
    Bill is a Senior Research Project Manager with the Arizona DOT and has been in this position since December 2018. Previously he worked for the Missouri DOT, which included 12 years of experience as Research Administrator of the Research Section. Bill also has experience in Bridge Design and Inspection, Traffic Studies, and Planning during his 34 year career at the Missouri DOT.

  • Kay Fitzpatrick, Senior Research Engineer | Texas A&M Transportation Institute

    Kay was the Principal Investigator for the PHB research project for ADOT and will be discussing the safety results. Kay is a Senior Research Engineer with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. She is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of pedestrian treatments, roadway geometric design, traffic control devices, and roadway safety. Her work has influenced changes in the TxDOT Roadway Design Manual, FHWA MUTCD and the AASHTO Green Book.

  • Mike Cynecki, Project Manager | Lee Engineering, LLC

    Mike will be discussing the results of the PHB research on higher speed roads.
    Mike is a Project Manager with Lee Engineering in Phoenix, Arizona. He has 40 years of traffic operations and safety experience, including 26 years with the City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department. Mr. Cynecki installed the first 9 Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons in Phoenix and serves as an instructor for the FHWA Designing for Pedestrian Safety Workshops.

  • Blake Olofson, Traffic Engineering Safety Manager | City of Tuscon, AZ

    Blake will present on the solar HAWK installed in Tucson.
    Blake is a traffic engineer with the City of Tucson, AZ. He graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Before coming to Tucson in 2017 he worked for a consulting firm in Seattle and for Arlington County, Virginia designing urban and rural arterials. Blake is involved with professional organizations, currently serving as secretary for the Southern Arizona Chapter of ITE.
