Webinar Description:
This webinar will cover innovative and new best practices that have been identified in teaching undergraduates in recent years. This will include examples of engagement and course concepts in transportation education that have been found to be successful among undergraduate students. This webinar will cover perspectives from geography and civil engineering to understand this conversation from an interdisciplinary context.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand lab-based learning to deepen the understanding of concepts, theories and methods introduced in lectures
  • Understand the benefits of group projects in short-term learning and long-term career development
  • Describe emerging mobile-based strategies for engaging undergraduate students in the classroom
  • Understand how to develop self-growing tactics along with enhancing student involvement in the class

Policies:  The webinar recording will be made available on-demand it will have a shelf life of 60 days to register before it is archived. Participants are able to purchase and retrieve their PDH credit certificate until their access to the content expires. After the content expires and goes into archive, the PDH credit certificate opportunity is forfeited.

    Dr. Ying Song is currently an associate professor in the department of Geography, Environment, and Society at University of Minnesota. Her research and teaching focus on Geogragphic Information Science (GIScience) in general and spatial-temporal analysis, modeling, and simulation in particular. Her empirical focus is human mobility and accessibility within various spatial scales, especially at urban and regional level.

  • Abofazl Karimpour, Assistant Professor | State University of New York Polytechnic Institute | Utica, New York, United States

    Dr. Karimpour is an Assistant Professor at the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute. Prior to this role, he was the Manager and Assistant Research Professor at the Center for Applied Transportation Science at the University of Arizona. His research interests are Traffic Operation and Safety, Traffic Signal Optimization, Data Analytics, Public Transportation, and Smart Cities Transportation. He has published over 12 peer-reviewed research articles in different journals and presented his research findings more than 15 times at national and international conferences. He serves as the Co-PI of several national, regional, and local transportation projects. He is also a young member of the Street and Highway Operations and an Associate member of the Transportation Safety of the American Society of Civil Engineers committees. In addition, he is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and serves as a panelist on NCHRP 17-100.
