Webinar Description:
With the passage of the Infrastructure Investment for Jobs Act and the subsequent Safe Systems Approach promulgated by FHWA, the ITE Roundabout Committee offers this webinar on Safe Systems approach for roundabout projects and some design considerations for pedestrians and bicyclist at roundabouts as well as lessons learned with vulnerable users at multilane roundabouts.
The webinar will begin with a summary of the Safe Systems Approach for roundabouts by FHWA. The presentation will detail how roundabouts are a perfect fit for the SSA. The FHWA presentation will be followed by roundabout design examples that accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists. The final presentation will show examples of studies of multilane roundabouts and pedestrians.
In this webinar, questions will follow each of the presenters to avoid confusion of participants at the end. The moderator will provide a synopsis of the presentations and questions.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the status of the SSA for roundabouts and how the SSA can be applied in roundabout design projects.
- List the benefits of the SSA and how to best apply to design process.
- Recognize roundabout designs accommodating vulnerable users with examples of projects that successfully accommodated them.
- Describe multilane roundabouts and pedestrian crossing studies.
