Webinar Description:
The Joint Employer Councils (Industry, Public Agency and Consultants) will be presenting a Town Hall on Wednesday, October 11th from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Eastern to talk about innovative project delivery approaches being used to address challenges facing the transportation industry today such as supply chain delays, inadequate staffing levels, growing public scrutiny, and inflation and general cost escalation. The session will explore different ways organizations are bringing projects from planning to delivery beyond traditional methods.

Learning Objectives:

List ways that organizations are altering their typical planning, design, procurement and delivery methods to better work together more effectively and efficiently
Explain emerging procurement and delivery process innovations that can help practitioners do more with less
Describe the risks associated with processes such as rapid prototyping and streamlined delivery will be described as well as how to avoid pitfalls.

Kimberly Schmidt, Purchasing Manager | City of Napierville | Napierville, IL, United States

Kim Schmidt has been with the City of Naperville for 22 years. She began her career with the City as a Project Engineer. In this role, Kim managed capital improvement projects from scope development through construction, performed engineering reviews of development proposals, and worked on transportation projects ranging from signal operations and resident traffic concerns to parking and transit. She then transitioned to the City’s procurement team first as a Buyer and then the Purchasing Manager where she assisted departments with the procurement of goods and services. Currently, Kim is the Deputy Director of the City’s Finance Department. Kim received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and Master’s in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University. Her master’s capstone project was an evaluation of local vendor preference ordinances within the context of three vendor markets strategic to City operations. She is a Professional Engineer and member of ITE.
Tom Stiles, PTOE, VP of Traffic Systems | Swarco McCain | Seattle, WA, United States

Tom Stiles is the Vice President of Traffic Systems Engineering at Swarco McCain and is a registered Professional Engineer and Professional Traffic Operations Engineer. He has nearly 20 years of experience analyzing and implementing traffic signal operations solutions through North America. Knowledgeable of all technical aspects of traffic signal controllers and management system operations, Mr. Stiles has served in a broad depth of technical and management roles with traffic signal controller manufacturers where he has directly contributed to the design and development of innovative hardware and software products. Mr. Stiles lives in Seattle, with his wife and two sons.
Shawn Leight, Vice President and Co-Owner | CBB | St. Louis, MO, United States

Shawn Leight works to develop effective and equitable transportation solutions that support community values by forging relationships and advancing forward thinking solutions. Shawn is the Vice President and one of four principal owners of CBB. In this capacity he leads CBB’s day-to-day project delivery and business development efforts. Shawn has played a key role in several innovative projects such as the New I-64 Design-Build project in St. Louis, which was awarded AASHTO’s 2010 America’s Best Transportation Project in the United States. Shawn is currently the lead traffic engineer on three Design-Build projects under construction in Missouri.

Shawn has been an adjunct professor of transportation engineering at Washington University in St. Louis since 2003, where many of his 350+ students are now leaders in the transportation profession.Shawn is heavily involved in professional organizations that support the transportation industry. He has served on the TRB Transportation for National Defense Committee since 2012 and has been the Administrator of the Gateway ITE Section since 2007. Shawn was the International President of ITE in 2017. Shawn is a licensed Professional Engineer and a certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) and Professional Transportation Planner (PTP). He earned a B.S. degree in Environmental Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a M.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Adam Catherine, P.E., PTOE, Principal, Smart(ER) Mobility Practice Lead - Northeast | Stantec | Mount Laurel, New Jersey, United States

Adam is a Principal at Stantec with over 15 years of traffic engineering and transportation planning experience that includes corridor planning, freeway and interchange analyses, ped/bike facility planning and design, master planning, transit facilities and systems planning, signal optimization, transportation demand management, and parking assessments. As Stantec’s Smarter Mobility Practice Lead for the Northeast, he leads a multidisciplinary team focused on active modes, transit planning, tourism and event travel demand management, and transportation management plans. Adam also teaches a traffic engineering course at his alma mater, the University of Delaware.
Kati DiRaimondo PE, PTOE, Associate | Traffic Engineer | Stantec | Mount Laurel, New Jersey, United States

Kati DiRaimondo is a traffic engineer with Stantec Consulting Services in Mount Laurel, NJ. She works with federal, state, municipal, and developer clients to help address existing and potential traffic impacts through time-tested as well as innovative mitigation strategies. Throughout her years with Stantec, Ms. DiRaimondo has seen a recognizable shift from vehicle-centric solutions to pedestrian/bicycle-centric solutions and has been fortunate enough to be involved in some forward-thinking projects that put the pedestrian, rather than the driver, first.
Ms. DiRaimondo is a member of ITE and was invited to speak as a co-presenter at this year’s Mid-Colonial District meeting in Pittsburgh, where she was very excited (and a little nervous) to meet others who are just as interested in this stuff as she is. (Spoiler alert: she had fun.) She also serves on the Traffic Engineering Council’s Traffic Signage and Markings subcommittee. When not involved in traffic engineering-related tasks, Ms. DiRaimondo can be found at home hanging out with her crew of two cats and a dog.
