Active Traffic Management from Washington D.C. to Washington State

Active Traffic Management from Washington D.C. to Washington State
An ITE Learning Hub Webinar
Developed by the ITE Traffic Engineering Council

Dynamically controlling congestion and increasing trip reliability is the objective of active traffic management (ATM) systems, but how is it being deployed and what are the real world benefits of these systems? The public counts on systems such as active lane management and ramp metering to deliver repeatable travel times and reduce congestion, active shoulder management to handle vehicle incidence gracefully, and variable speed limits to improve safety. This webinar will showcase systems which have been deployed in 2018, have been installed for close to a decade, and a glimpse into the possibilities of future systems.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn the state of Active Traffic Management across the county and use-cases for various systems.
  • Know the benefits of each system and which may be suited to similar transportation problems.
  • Understand the benefits and develop real-world expectations.
  • Be inspired for future deployments and what may change.
