Are you looking for a way to differentiate yourself from other transportation professionals or want to demonstrate your continuing commitment to continued education regarding the transportation profession? On June 27, three transportation professionals will share their certification journey, discussing why they chose to pursue certification, how it has helped them professional and personally, and provide some of their tips to prepare for the exams. In addition, webinar participants will hear about the corporate viewpoint of certification and how organizations can support their employees’ pursuit of these certifications. ITE and TPCB staff will provide an administrative overview of the application process, general exam information, as well as information on the resources ITE provides to help certification applicants prepare for the exams.

Luana Broshears is the Planning and Safety Director at the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), an international membership association of transportation professionals who work to improve mobility and safety for all transportation system users and help build smart and livable communities. She is also Technical Programs staff for the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE), where she is primarily responsible for the development of NOCoE services such as webinars, peer exchanges, and summits. Luana holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Brasilia, Brazil, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering, with emphasis on transportation safety, from Auburn University. She has worked in the public, private, and academic sectors, and her professional experience includes transportation safety, transportation impact analysis, traffic operations studies, parking studies, pedestrian and bicyclist studies, and review of development plans. Luana is a registered Professional Engineer and holds Professional Traffic Operations Engineer and Road Safety Professional certifications.
Joseph Balskus, P.E., PTOE, RSP1, Director of Transportation Systems, VHB, Wethersfield, CT, USA

Joe a senior management level technical leader with a broad background in the technical design and management of progressive transportation systems. He has worked for New England DOT’s on traffic signal systems, ITS, roadway/expressway reconstruction projects and traffic management plans. He has also worked on corridor studies for regional planning agencies and dozens of municipalities. He has prepared studies and master plans for the higher education and institutional and large commercial markets. He also understands the private development arena with having secured approvals for dozens of retail and mixed use and TOD projects across southern New England. He has led traffic engineering efforts for master planning efforts for large casinos in CT and MA. He is also currently the President of the Transportation Professional Certification Board’s Board of Directors.

Jan Voss brings his expertise in traffic engineering, parking operations, transportation surveys and transport planning as both founder and current president of Creative Transportation Solutions Ltd. (CTS). He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) in British Columbia, Yukon Territory and the Northwest Territories / Nunavut, and has over 30 years of experience in the field of traffic engineering and operations. In addition, Jan is a certified Expert Witness by the Supreme Court of B.C. in the field of traffic engineering.
Dan Hardy, P.E., PTP | TPCB Board Member

Dan Hardy is retired and was a principal with Renaissance Planning in Arlington, VA where he focused on projects for government clients that integrate transportation and land use. He has over 30 years of experience in both private and public sector positions developing transportation solutions and policy and project levels to optimize multimodal travel demand and transportation network services in congested communities.. Dan received his BSCE and MSCE from Michigan State University. Dan is a former chair of ITE’s Transportation Planning Council and Sustainability Task Force and a co-author of ITE’s Recommended Practices on Transportation Impact Analyses for Site Development and Planning Urban Roadway Systems.
