The new and revised Long Term Care (LTC) Requirements for Participation were released in 2016 with subsequent phase-in dates of November 2017 and November 2019. Changes included many new and revised codes of federal regulation with key principals being person centered care, resident preferences and staff training. Of the 23 revised or new codes, 11 of them relate either directly or indirectly to care of residents with dementia, thus they are having significant impact on how dementia care is now being provided in LTC. Given these updated requirements, team members will have the opportunity to play a critical role in compliance of the requirements. This session will focus on research-based strategies to assure compliance with each regulation, to include assuring person-centered care and preferences despite the complexities of residents with dementia. This will include the focus on individualized care, therapeutic approaches, root cause analysis of behaviors, and staff training to ensure requirements are met.
By the completion of the presentation, attendees will:
- Identify how the revised CMS codes of regulation affect the required care for the resident with dementia in long term care.
- Describe the evidence-based strategies to assure a resident’s quality of life when they are living with dementia.
- Discuss how the roles of each team member can assist the senior care community and/or memory care home with survey compliance.
