The vision of Smart Manufacturing is seamless and pervasive connectivity of people, systems, and assets across a value chain and ecosystem. To support and progress toward Smart Manufacturing an organization should evaluate their current operations software landscape and identify opportunities to incorporate next-generation software technology with an emphasis on business value and impact. This is necessary because existing software for operations is insufficient to address the scale and diversity required of future applications given the forecasted number of connected devices and systems both within the enterprise and beyond.
