This course reviews topics in bankruptcy (Chapters 7, 11, and 13) essential to the title insurance underwriter, including the Petition, jurisdiction, automatic stay, discharge of debts, notices of sale/transfer, exemptions to the estate, Maryland homestead exemptions, tenancy issues, abandonment, elimination of liens, discharge orders and judgments, bankruptcies on prior owners, Deeds in lieu of foreclosure, and what to review when underwriting a transaction involving a bankruptcy.

A former associate in the real estate practice group of Venable, Baetjer and Howard, of Baltimore, Paul has over twenty-five years of title searching, title examining and title insurance experience. He received his B.A. Degree, Cum Laude, from Loyola College and his J.D., Magna Cum Laude, from The University of Baltimore School of Law. He is a member of the Baltimore County and Maryland State Bar Associations. Paul has lectured extensively at MICPEL and National Business Institute seminars on topics of title examination, title insurance underwriting, boundary law and advanced real estate law, and he currently serves as a member of the Real Property Code Revision Committee and the Section Council of the Maryland State Bar Association Real Property Planning and Zoning Section.
