Description: This activity will cover the following objectives: 1) demonstrate the importance of and need for the integration of health principles in courtroom decisions; 2) recognize how medical treatment decisions may impact the recovery process of patients who are involved with a treatment court; 3) develop and foster improved relationships with treatment court officials (e.g., judges, probation officers) and community support agencies; 4) identify opportunities for enhanced communication and shared resources to benefit patients diagnosed with opioid and substance use disorders; 5) appraise the value of medication for the treatment of opioid use disorder, as well as other evidence-based treatment modalities; and 6) establish lines of communication between treating physicians/clinicians, judges/probation officer supervising the patient/participant, and community supports.
