GPPA is designed to give auctioneers more skill and acumen in appraising personal property and provide another potential revenue stream as a professional appraiser. You will learn to appraise all types of personal property, from art to antiques, heavy equipment to general household goods, vehicles to collectibles. The class focuses on appraisal methodology, terminology, and report writing rather than asset class: you will complete a minimum of three appraisals in class. The class also introduces concepts of business building and integration into established auction business. GPPA teaches you to appraise according to USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice).
Upon completing this class, you will be able to:
- Define ‘appraisal’ and describe what appraisers do (and do not do)
- Identify who uses appraisals and for what purpose
- List what needs to be present in an appraisal
- Identify and define the required elements of an appraisal report
- Describe appraisal scope of work, markets, and approaches to value
- Develop an opinion of value and appraiser checklists and tool kits
- Develop a competent appraisal report structure
- Describe what is required in an IRS assignment and what needs to be in a work file
- Strategize how to build your appraisal business
