Description
The focus of this webinar is to increase counselor competence in using technology-assisted media to perform therapeutic counseling services. We will define “telemental health” and explore the many names it has been called over the years. The presentation will also highlight the barriers and benefits of using technology-assisted media, including research suggesting that telemental health is just as effective as in-office counseling. A review of ethical codes for and how they relate to using technology-assisted media to perform therapeutic services will also be covered. Finally, the webinar will include state and federal regulations and standards for helping professionals.
Learning Objectives
  • Participants will define “telemental health” and recall three names to which it has been historically referred.
  • Participants will describe three benefits of providing therapeutic services via technology-assisted media.
  • Participants will be able to explain two issues regulated by applicable ethical codes and two issues regulated by the state/federal government regarding the use of telemental health.
