Description
The purpose of this workshop is to provide education on substance use in the African American community. By participating in this workshop, participants will become educated on substance use and the stigma associated with seeking treatment in the African American community. Lastly, this workshop will discuss the lack of best practices and how to engage African Americans in substance use disorder treatment.

Immediately following previously-scheduled one (1) hour webinar presentation by Sherrá Watkins, PhD, LCMHC-S, LCAS, CRC, CCS, BC-TMH, this webinar will shift to a one (1) hour Virtual Town Hall Event with an open discussion forum. Guest panelists will include Anthony Andrews, PhD, CRC, LCMHC, LCAS, TF-CBT, NAADAC Executive Director Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, BSW, NCAC II, CDC III, SAP, and NAADAC Director of Training and Professional Development Samson Teklemariam, MA, LPC, CPTM.
The town hall will immediately follow the webinar. No additional registration is required. The webinar and town hall are worth a total of 2 CEs*.

- Participants will identify societal and cultural constructs that play a role as protective factors, and interventions in substance use disorder treatment.

Sherrá Watkins, PhD, LCMHC-S, LCAS, CRC, CCS, BC-TMH
Sherrá Watkins, PhD, LCMHC-S, LCAS, CRC, CCS, BC-TMH, is the Director of Wellness Counseling at American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in Saint Maarten. She earned her degrees from East Carolina University, including a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Rehabilitation Counseling & Administration, a Master of Science degree in Clinical Counseling & Substance Abuse Counseling, a Master of Arts in Education degree in Health Education, and Bachelor of Science degree in School Health Education. Watkins’ research focuses on decreasing the stigma of mental health, chronic pain and chronic diseases among African Americans. She is the co-owner of Sister WELLS, Coaching, Counseling & Consulting, PLLC (2017) with Charla Blumell and Shawnte' Elbert, all who are proud members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.

Anthony Andrews, PhD, CRC, LCMHC, TF-CBT, is the owner of Andrews Counseling & Consulting, PLLC. Andrews specializes in providing therapeutic services for individuals and families to address a wide array of challenges. As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counseling, he works with young adults, older individuals, and couples. Andrews has extensive experience working with children and adolescents with a variety of emotional, behavioral, or psychological concerns. Born in the small town of East Arcadia, North Carolina, he learned the importance of community. Andrews earned his Bachelor’s degree from Shaw University and then traveled to Greensboro to earn both a Master's and Doctorate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University

Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, BSW, NCAC II, CDC III, SAP, is the Executive Director of NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals. She previously served as the Executive Director of Danya Institute and the Central East Addiction Technology Transfer Center. Prior to that, she was the Program Director for Volunteers of America Western Washington serving and the administrator of alcohol/drug centers providing a broad range of services, and a trainer in Domestic Violence/Anger Management and Conflict Resolution. Moreno Tuohy has written on a variety of professional issues, including addiction evaluation, counseling methods, co-occurring disorders, treatment and recovery. She has served as President of NAADAC, Certification Board Commissioner, International Chair, Treasurer and Legislative Chair for NAADAC.

Samson Teklemariam, MA, LPC, CPTM, is the Director of Training and Professional Development of NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals. He has been a leader in the field of addiction treatment for over 10 years. With a background in CBT and experience leveraging eclectic clinical models, he has worked in a variety of treatment settings, including school-based, inpatient, adolescent academies, outpatient, prison-based, private practice, and family counseling settings. Teklemariam previously worked for Phoenix House Foundation as the National Director of Learning & Development; in this role, he managed a training department covering 100+ programs in 12 states.

- Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $25 processing fee to access the quiz.
- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
