Description
Through the review of a case study, this presentation will focus on how to prevent the misdiagnosis of anxiety and best support clients to have a more fulfilling recovery by treating the anxiety disorders that most commonly underly eating and substance use disorders. We will discuss the co-occurrence of substance use and eating disorders and mood and anxiety disorders and how they present themselves, along with effective tools to assess, intervene, and treat these disorders.
Learning Objectives
  • Participants will be able to describe the co-occurrence of mood and anxiety disorders in the eating and substance use disorder population.
  • Participants will be able to verbalize the difference between various anxiety disorders and ways co-occurrence presents in clients.
  • Participants will be able to apply effective tools, interventions, and treatments for anxiety disorders.

Presenters
Robyn Cruze, MA

Robyn Cruze, MA, is an internationally recognized author and speaker. Cruze published Making Peace with Your Plate (Central Recovery Press) with Espra Andrus, LCSW. Her work has been featured internationally in media outlets including ABC, Sky News (Aust.), CBS, The Mighty, and The Temper and Refinery 29. Cruze is the co-founder of a family mental health awareness initiative, Wide Wonder, that aims to make mental health and addiction recovery an everyday conversation. She also serves as the Director of Advocacy Consultant at Eating Recovery Center.
Leah Young, MA, LCPC

Leah Young, MA, LCPC, is the Clinical Manager of the Addiction Recovery Track at Eating Recovery Center and Pathlight Mood and Anxiety Center (ERC). Young has been with ERC Insight for nearly five years, introducing substance use treatment and education into the mood, anxiety and trauma, binge eating treatment and recovery, and eating disorder programs at all levels of care. Young earned her Master’s degree from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2007. Upon graduation, she was hired at Resurrection Behavioral Health as a clinician, running evening intensive outpatient groups for patients with substance use disorders. She was promoted to Program Manager at the re-named Presence Behavioral Health, which she ran for several years before coming to ERC Insight to reconnect with clinical work. Young lives in Chicago with her exuberant seven-year-old daughter, her hilarious husband, and her two annoying cats.

Beginner and Intermediate
Beginning level courses introduce learners to a content area; include information about a condition, treatment method, or issue; and involve learning and comprehending content.

Intermediate level courses provide information that builds on knowledge practitioners with some experience already have. These courses focus on skill-building or adding knowledge, possibly following a brief overview of basic information, and involve using information in concrete situations and understanding the underlying structure of the material.

To earn a CE Certificate for viewing this webinar, you must view the webinar in its entirety, pass the CE quiz, and complete the online survey evaluation.

  1. Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $20 processing fee to access the quiz.
  2. A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
  3. Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
