Description
Addictions counseling has changed drastically over the years as the field has widened to include a merging of theoretical concepts. As the addictions field makes room for a greater, deeper understanding of addiction, developments in the field have changed the way we treat both chemical and behavioral addictions. This workshop will help addictions counselors better understand attachment styles and the significance of an individual’s attachment style when treating addictive disorders. Information will be presented about the dangers of isolation in treatment and how to help clients create the connecting opportunities necessary to heal attachment deficits and begin to live the fulfilling lives they long for.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to define and describe the various attachment styles.
- Participants will learn about the connection between attachment and addictive behavior.
- Participants will be able to identify treatment methods that support the development of a more secure attachment style.

Ellen E. Elliott, LCAS, LPC, CSAT, PhD Candidate
Ellen E. Elliott, LCAS, LPC, CSAT, PhD Candidate, is a psychotherapist and director of Four Directions Counseling & Recovery Center. She is licensed in North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, a professional counselor and clinical supervisor, and is nationally certified as a sex addiction therapist. Elliott provides counseling in various areas including addictions, sexual issues, trauma, childhood abuse, intimacy and attachment, and relationships with a goal to assist people in addressing past trauma and creating the lives and connections they long for. Elliott is a lifelong lover of learning and culture, currently pursuing a doctorate in Counseling and Human Development and completing research in South Asia related to intergenerational trauma.

- Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $20 processing fee to access the quiz.
- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
