Description
Personality disorders are often seen in clients with substance use disorders. This presentation will give an overview of personality disorders including their etiology, diagnostic criteria and clinical presentation. This presentation will also provide insights to the behavior behind these disorders and provide some strategies to create change. The prevalence of co-occurring substance use disorder and personality disorders is undeniable. This presentation will discuss the most commonly seen personality disorders (borderline, narcissistic, and anti-social) including the clinical presentation, etiology of the disorders, and essential strategies to work with these individuals. This presentation will also discuss the underlying behavioral and emotional needs of these individuals and help clinicians to engage with and create change with these individuals.

Malcolm Horn, LCSW, MAC, SAP
Malcolm Horn, LCSW, MAC, SAP, is the Director of Special Services at Rimrock Foundation, a treatment center in Montana that provides the full ASAM continuum of care. She coordinates the continuing education for licensed staff, supervises and coordinates interns, and provides educational lectures and workshops to patients and community members. Horn received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Walla Walla College. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is licensed as an Addiction Counselor in Montana. She also has accreditation by the NAADAC as a MAC and SAP. Horn is the former President of NAADAC’s Montana affiliate, the Montana Association of Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselors, and is the Regional Vice President for the Northwest region. She recently decided she needed a hobby and is working on her Doctorate degree.

- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
