Description
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based treatment protocol often used when treating individuals with substance use disorders. The literature supports MI as an effective strategy for reducing symptoms of substance use disorders. However, while many service providers express agreement with the spirit of MI and align ideologically with MI, MI is a detailed treatment protocol that requires training and skill. This webinar will explore how fidelity to MI was monitored at Prism Health North Texas, an HIV/AIDS service organization in Dallas, Texas. We will detail specific tools, continuous improvement and evaluation processes, and practical strategies that increase fidelity to MI principles among care coordinators.

Ben Callaway, LMSW
Ben Callaway, LMSW, is a social worker with Prism Health North Texas in Dallas, TX where his current work focuses on providing care to dually diagnosed, HIV positive persons who are experiencing homelessness. Callaway has previously provided care to people in need at homeless shelters, academic medical centers, inpatient substance use treatment centers, and HIV clinics. He has also served in the Peace Corps in Armenia. Callaway is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.

Nicole S. Chisolm, MPH
Nicole S. Chisolm, MPH, is an alumna of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. She also attended Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA where she earned a Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology & Biostatistics. Over the past 11 years, Chisolm has applied her passion for public health and her belief in servant leadership as an advocate, researcher, evaluator, and grant writer for programs focused on examining and addressing infectious diseases, social determinants of health, and health disparities. Chisolm currently serves as the Program Evaluation Director at Prism Health North Texas where she continues to develop her experience in public health research in the non-profit sector.
