Description
This presentation will give a brief overview of the history of NASAC as well as the purpose for creating the Commission to oversee, foster and certify colleges and universities in the development of specific degreed programs focusing on addiction studies. The format of the presentation will focus on how to successfully complete the application process for a college or university to submit for consideration of certification. The presenters will highlight common problem areas, review specifically how to complete the required application in a thorough fashion and needed resources and consultation available to those applying. An important aspect of the presentation will highlight a crosswalk to TAP 21 by the college or university regarding specific identification of courses related to core functions within TAP 21.

Presenters
Diane Sevening, EdD, LAC, MAC
Diane Sevening, EdD, LAC, MAC, is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Dakota (USD) School of Health Sciences Addiction Counseling and Prevention Department (ACP), has over 35 years of teaching experience, and is a faculty advisor to CASPPA. In addition to serving as NAADAC President, Sevening is also a member of the SD Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals (BAPP) and Treasurer of the International Coalition for Addiction Studies Education (INCASE). Her clinical experience involves 7 years as the Prevention and Treatment Coordinator Student Health Services at USD, Family Therapist at St. Luke’s Addiction Center in Sioux City, IA for 1 year, and 2 years as a clinical supervisor for the USD Counseling Center. Sevening has been the Regional Vice President for NAADAC North Central Region, the Chair of the Student Committee for NAADAC, an evaluator for the National Addiction Studies Accreditation Commission (NASAC), and currently a member of the NASAC board of commissioners.

Gerard J. Schmidt, MA, LPC, MAC
Gerard J. Schmidt, MA, LPC, MAC, is the Immediate Past President of NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals and is Chief Operations Officer at Valley HealthCare System in Morgantown, WV. He has served in the mental health and addictions treatment profession for the past 45 years. Publications to Schmidt’s credit include several articles on the development of Employee Assistance Programs in rural areas and wellness in the workplace, addictions practice in the residential settings, and an overview of addictions practice in the United States. He has edited Treatment Improvement Protocols for CSAT for several years and has been active with the Mid-Atlantic ATTC. Schmidt has served as Chair of the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals (NCC AP) and NAADAC’s Public Policy Committee, and as NAADAC’s Clinical Affairs Consultant. Awards include the Distinguished Service Award in 2003 and the Senator Harold Hughes Advocate of the Year in 2010. In addition to his national and international work, Schmidt has been active within West Virginia in advocating and supporting state legislative issues related to addictions and addiction treatment.

Joseph Rosenfeld, PhD

Additionally he is in private practice providing assessment and referral services; and individual, group, and family therapy for a range of inter- and intra-personal concerns. Rosenfeld is married with three children.

- Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $15 processing fee to access the quiz.
- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
