Description
Specific cognitive functional domains disruptions as related to prenatal alcohol consumption will be reviewed providing an understanding of how each lobe may be affected as well as higher order cognitive functions. In addition, developmental and functional outcomes related to prenatal alcohol exposure will be explored utilizing a developmental approach to understand how functionality may vary from the neurotypical child. Also, assessments utilized to better understand specific neurocognitive, developmental, and functional deficits will be discussed to provide practitioners with greater understanding of tools available to aid in determining deficits. Finally, interventions based upon common neurocognitive, developmental, and functional deficits will be discussed to enable practitioners locate community resources to better serve the needs of the child and family.

  • Educate clients on the cognitive and functional outcomes of prenatal alcohol consumption.
  • Identify major neurocognitive changes associated with prenatal alcohol consumption.
  • Recognize appropriate interventions to implement based upon residual neurocognitive and functional difficulties for those prenatally exposed to alcohol.

Presenter
Paulette Pritt, PhD

Paulette Pritt, PhD currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Department of Pediatrics, Section of Adolescent Medicine. Additionally, she is a consultant to Dr. Michael Meredith at Clarity at Seven Ponds, a residential treatment facility. She earned a doctoral degree in psychology from Texas Woman’s University, Master’s degree in counseling from the University of North Texas, a graduate certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas. She completed internship and fellowship at the Center for Psychological Development and Applied Psychology Group of Texoma where she focused on psychological and neuropsychological assessment across the lifespan, as well as provided individual and family psychotherapy. Dr. Pitt has extensive experience working with children and adolescents with specialization in autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Pitt is currently licensed as a Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor, and Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. Additionally, she is board certified as a School Neuropsychologist.
