Description
This webinar will define and distinguish health-risks commonly experienced by helping professionals, specifically burnout and compassion fatigue. The webinar will emphasize both risk factors and protective factors for these stressors within individuals and organizations, and will provide a means to assess one’s personal vulnerability to these.
Learning Objectives
- Define, recognize and distinguish the professional health-risks of compassion fatigue and burnout.
- Understand the most common risk factors for the development of compassion fatigue and burnout (CFBT) among helping professionals, and assess one’s personal level of risk.
- Describe the elements of an effective approach to recovery from compassion fatigue and burnout (CFBT).
- Understand and cultivate a variety of research-supported protective factors against CFBT within ourselves, and within our work settings.

Bob Phillips, DBH, LADAC, LMSW
Bob Phillips, DBH, LADAC, LMSW, is Coordinator of Human Services and Addiction Studies at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell. With 35 years of experience, Bob serves as clinician, educator, trainer, and consultant in the fields of addictions treatment and the integration of behavioral health into primary medical care. Bob’s research and clinical interests include program evaluation, youth risk and resiliency, and occupational health including risk and protective factors for burnout and compassion fatigue. In addition, he has served and led the human service professions at local, state, and national levels and organizations, including NAADAC (as the Southwest Regional Vice-President 1995-1997), the New Mexico Addictions Education Network, the International Coalition of Substance Abuse Educators, and the National Association of Doctors of Behavioral Health.

- Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $20 processing fee to access the quiz.
- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
