This webinar will explore the combined usefulness of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Resource Tapping (an EMDR technique) in helping patients with chronic pain. These interventions, individually and together, are evidence-based practices for both chronic physical pain (e.g. back injuries, lupus) and "diffuse pain syndromes" more often associated with MH disorders (e.g. fibromyalgia). Traditional medical interventions for all these disorders often rely on opioid analgesics and anxiolytics which predispose persons in recovery from Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) to relapse. While EMDRIA certification is required to perform Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), the resource tapping technique developed by Laura Parnell, PhD, requires no formal training, and can effectively be taught to counselors and clients. The synergistic combination with ACT helps counselors empower clients to be active partners in their own healing.

• Explain the basic principles of both ACT and Resource Tapping and how they apply to chronic pain.
• Explain the four traditional visualization modalities or "resources" used with chronic pain.
• Participate in a brief experiential exercise using "tapping in" that they can use with clients (handout materials provided).
