Description
This free webinar is designed to raise awareness of the importance of accurate diagnosis and ethical treatment of patients that experience severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms but may have been treated traditionally across multiple systems for psychotic disorders. These patients may have poor response to anti-psychotic medications and express fear of sedatives. Trauma informed care requires clinicians to be sensitive to such differential diagnoses so that the focus can be on recovery rather than symptom management or subdued central nervous system. Further, diagnosis may have implications for court systems and entitlements such as SSI/SSDI as these entities may struggle to conceptualize the disabling impact of trauma. Join us for this free webinar to distinguish between schizophrenia and PTSD in a trauma-informed system of care.
Learning Objectives
- Identify how trauma-informed systems of care will increase need for skill in differential diagnosis;
- Identify three tools to assist with differential diagnosis; and
- Verbalize how treating primary psychotic disorder may 'miss the mark' and therefore provide an obstacle to recovery.
