Description
This webinar will discuss principles and strategies for clinical supervisors to help promote the professional success of individual treatment providers who are in personal long-term recovery. Topics highlighted include common dynamics that workers in recovery navigate, such as encountering recipients of services in the community and self-disclosure. The presentation will provide guidance and suggestions for addressing those in clinical supervision who are also in recovery.
Learning Objectives
  • Participants will be able to identify two challenges that providers in recovery encounter in the profession.
  • Providers will be able to summarize three common dynamics providers in recovery must navigated.
  • Participants will be able to implement at least one supervision strategy to support providers in recovery.

Presenters
John Paulson, ACSW, LCSW, MAC, LCAC

John Paulson, ACSW, LCSW, MAC, LCAC, is an associate professor of social work at the University of Southern Indiana. He is a licensed clinical addiction counselor in Indiana. Paulson is a member of NAADAC and recognized by the NCC AP as holding the NCSE and MAC credentials. Paulson currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Indiana Association for Addiction Professionals, NAADAC’s state affiliate. Paulson’s practice background includes providing psychotherapy for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders. He has presented trainings nationally and virtually on topics related to clinical supervision and mindfulness-based interventions.
Veronica Huggins, PhD

Veronica Huggins, PhD, earned her Doctorate degree in Social Work Policy, Planning and Administration from Clark Atlanta University. She is currently an associate professor of social work at the University of Southern Indiana. Her research focuses on corrections, including community corrections, drug courts, and diversity issues. In addition to her academic work, Huggins also has a clinical practice background working with individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.

These courses focus on skill-building or adding knowledge, possibly following a brief overview of basic information, and involve using information in concrete situations and understanding the underlying structure of the material.

To earn a CE Certificate for viewing this webinar, you must view the webinar in its entirety, pass the CE quiz, and complete the online survey evaluation.

  1. Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $15 processing fee to access the quiz.
  2. A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
  3. Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
