Description
The Integrated Dynamic Care Model (IDCM) is a dimensional approach to caring for people with opioid use disorder (OUD). The epidemic of drug overdose deaths claimed the lives of 841,000 Americans between 1999 and 2019. More than 70% of these deaths in 2019 are due to opioids. Clinical models that are based on the delivery of acute episodes of care are ill-suited to meeting the needs of a patient population suffering from a chronic condition like OUD. Behavioral Health Group (BHG) has responded to this by creating an integrated dynamic care model for deployment in both its opioid treatment programs (OTPs) and office based opioid treatment (OBOT) settings.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to describe office-based medication assisted treatment with Buprenorphine and review two current treatment approaches.
- Participants will be able to identify in at least three instances the clinical need for an integrated care model that treats patients with opioid use disorder.
- Participants will compile four practical steps to adequately assess and refer patients with opioid use disorders to appropriate levels of care.

Benjamin Nordstrom, MD, PhD
Benjamin Nordstrom, MD, PhD, is a board certified addiction psychiatrist. Prior to coming to Behavioral Health Group (BHG), he was on the faculty of the medical schools of Dartmouth College and the University of Pennsylvania, where he led addiction treatment services and taught at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate level. Nordstrom was previously the Chief Clinical Officer and later the CEO of Phoenix House. He served on the ASAM committee that generated national practice guidelines for the use of medications in the treatment of opioid use disorder, and was a co-leader of the quality improvement learning collaboratives as part of the state of Vermont’s Hub and Spoke initiative. In addition, Nordstrom has been deployed twice as a psychiatrist with the Army Reserves.

Samson Teklemariam, LPC, CPTM
Samson Teklemariam, LPC, CPTM, is the Vice President of Clinical Services for Behavioral Health Group (BHG). He is an accomplished leader with a history of driving organizational results with learning and development solutions. Known for implementing initiatives that support organizational priorities and produce measurable outcomes, he has been a leader in the field of addiction treatment for over ten years. He was formerly the Director of Training and Professional Development for NAADAC. He is a certified lead trainer for the Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Substance Abuse (CBISA) curriculum, Calm Every Storm: Crisis Prevention & Intervention curriculum, and experienced in treating trauma-related disorders using trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TFCBT) and Seeking Safety. Teklemariam previously worked for Phoenix House Foundation as the National Director of Learning and Development.

- Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $20 processing fee to access the quiz.
- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
