Description
Thousands of veterans who have been exposed to hostile war zones are returning. The exposure impacts them emotionally, physically and behaviorally, therefore making it tough for them to adjust to civilian life and to cope effectively. Addiction and combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often go hand-in-hand, with estimates that 35-75% of veterans with PTSD abuse drugs and alcohol. Three symptoms sets of re-experiencing, numbing and avoidance and hyper-vigilance characterize the disorder and make it difficult for the individual to adjust back to civilian life. Understanding the major issues faced by veterans is important for providing addiction and mental health services. The impact on veterans, PTSD, addictions and treatment/interventions will be discussed in detail during this webinar.

- Participants will be able to summarize the methods of interventions and treatment methods to treat combat trauma and addictive behaviors.

Larry Ashley, EdS, LCADC, CPGC, LPC, LMSW has been a integral part of counseling program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He retired from from the University in June, 2013. During his tenure at the University of Nevada, Mr. Ashley was an Addictions Specialist, Mental Health Coordinator, Associate Professor in Residence for the Department of Educational and Clinical Studies. Mr. Ashley was also a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine (Addiction Medicine) for the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He also served the Director of the Problem Gambling Treatment Program. Mr. Ashley is the Chair of the IAAOC Committee on Trauma and Addiction

- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
