Description
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is widely accepted as the most effective form of treatment for individuals with opioid use disorder. MAT options have offered a pathway to recovery for many individuals who have found sustained, long-term recovery with the support of these medications and services. Despite this, MAT is often categorized as a form of harm reduction. In fact, MAT is known to provide many life-saving harm reduction benefits to individuals who use substances. So, which is it? A pathway to recovery or a form of harm reduction? In this training, attendees will explore how MAT can serve in both of these critical roles. Individuals working in MAT settings will learn how to harness the important benefits of harm reduction work while still offering opportunity and hope for recovery.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to describe the concepts of recovery-oriented systems of care and harm reduction.
- Participants will be able to conceptualize how to practice harm reduction within a recovery-oriented MAT setting.
- Participants will be able to apply practical skills for doing recovery-oriented harm reduction work in their own practice.

Chrissie S. Martin, MA, LMFT, LAC-S, CS
Chrissie S. Martin, MA, LMFT, LAC-S, CS, is an Addictions Professional from Charleston, South Carolina. For the last 16 years, she has been working in the field of opioid treatment. Martin currently works as a Regional Clinical Director for Behavioral Health Group, overseeing the quality of clinical work in 14 OTPs across five states. She previously worked as a program surveyor for CARF. Martin represents South Carolina on the Board of AATOD, the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence, and is the president of the South Carolina chapter. She serves on the board of Faces and Voices of Recovery Lowcountry, a local recovery community organization. Martin is a passionate advocate for individuals and families in and seeking recovery and a believer in the value of evidence-based practices, MAT, harm reduction, and supporting multiple pathways to recovery.

Keisha Haynes, MS, LCPC-S
Keisha Haynes, MS, LCPC-S, is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a board-approved Supervisor in the state of Maryland. Her expertise includes leading implementation of clinical programming for start-up addiction and behavioral health treatment programs. Haynes currently serves as Regional Clinical Director for Behavioral Health Group. Haynes focuses her clinical support and training in the areas of clinical services and program delivery, quality assurance monitoring and tracking, and clinical supervision. Haynes is also the Co-Founder of Black Open Space, a social justice organization whose mission is to hold space to engage in candid conversation regarding the impact that various social issues have on mental health and functioning in the BIPOC community.

Beginning level courses introduce learners to a content area; include information about a condition, treatment method, or issue; and involve learning and comprehending content.
Intermediate level courses provide information that builds on knowledge practitioners with some experience already have. These courses focus on skill-building or adding knowledge, possibly following a brief overview of basic information, and involve using information in concrete situations and understanding the underlying structure of the material.

This course meets the qualifications for one and a half (1.5) hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
- Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $20 processing fee to access the quiz.
- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
