Description
The evolution of trauma-informed care in addiction treatment settings has limited consistency. There is also a lack of specificity in how to apply trauma-informed care principles to specific substance use disorders, such as opioid use disorder (OUD). Compared to medication-free programs, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) significantly reduces the risk of overdose death, reduces illicit opioid use, reduces risk behaviors for the transmission of blood-borne infection, and improves retention in care. Despite these facts, only 30 to 50% being treated for OUD receive MAT. Trauma-informed care for opioid treatment includes MAT as a critical component for evidence-based treatment. This presentation will include updated research and best practices on trauma-informed care for opioid treatment.

Tiara Reddick, MA, LPC, CSAC
Tiara Reddick, MA, LPC, CSAC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor with over 14 years of clinical leadership experience. Reddick currently resides as a Regional Clinical Director for Behavioral Health Group. She focuses her clinical expertise and passion to support and train on complex trauma and co-occurring disorders. Reddick's work has not been limited to the professional sector, as she serves as a leader with Leadership Prince William, is an active NAADAC member, and also mentors underprivileged youth in the Washington, D.C. area with Capital Partners for Education. She was selected as a 2020 conference speaker for the Just Ask Conference for families and survivors of human trafficking. Reddick’s motivation and life motto is, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,”- Mahatma Gandhi.

Kelly C. Smith, MS, LPC, NCC, is a Regional Clinical Director at Behavioral Health Group. She has worked extensively with individuals and families addressing mental health and addiction in many levels of care. Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has been in the field for over 14 years. She has worked in many roles in the clinical field, including Counselor, Group Facilitator, Primary Therapist, Team Lead Therapist, Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Operations Specialist, and now Regional Clinical Director. Smith has a passion for helping others develop stronger clinical skills, leadership skills, and self-care skills with emphasis on both the mental and physical components.

Beginning level courses introduce learners to a content area; include information about a condition, treatment method, or issue; and involve learning and comprehending content.
Intermediate level courses provide information that builds on knowledge practitioners with some experience already have. These courses focus on skill-building or adding knowledge, possibly following a brief overview of basic information, and involve using information in concrete situations and understanding the underlying structure of the material.

- Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $20 processing fee to access the quiz.
- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
