Description
Emotional Attachment Behavioral Therapy (EABT) is a ground-breaking therapy model, gaining notoriety in the behavioral health field for quickly getting to the root of attachment issues. This presentation will show the history and relevant research associated with attachment theory and the connection between insecure attachment styles and behavioral health issues. It will also review the primary objectives of EABT, including assessing insecure attachment styles, understanding core attachment stressors (childhood environmental factors), cultivating new coping skills, gaining self-awareness and self-esteem, and increasing the amount and frequency of secure attachments in a person's life. Practitioners using the EABT model will work with patients to cultivate these primary objectives while creating secure attachments in the therapeutic relationship. In this session, attendees will learn about the application and curriculum that makes this model unique.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to apply the basic principles and primary objectives of Emotional Attachment Behavioral Therapy.
- Participants will be able to explain how attachment disorder correlates with behavioral health issues.
- Participants will be able to evaluate how attachment stressors can exacerbate thoughts, feelings and behaviors that increase unhealthy outcomes.

Doug Smith, BS, CADC II
Doug Smith, BS, CADC II, has a Bachelor's in Psychology from Eastern Oregon University and is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Level II. He has over 19 years of experience working in addiction services at Serenity Lane, including as a direct clinician (11 years) and recently as Clinical Director (4 years). He has innovated many modern approaches to treatment services, including developing new patient-centered treatment models. He developed the Emotional Attachment Behavioral Therapy (EABT) model and speaks regionally to professionals in the field about its positive outcomes. In 2018, he received the Addiction Professional Community Service Award. Smith was also the recipient of the Innovator of The Year award in 2023 from the Oregon Association of Addiction Professionals for his development of the EABT model. He currently serves as Director of Clinical Innovations at Serenity Lane.

Beginning level courses introduce learners to a content area; include information about a condition, treatment method, or issue; and involve learning and comprehending content.
Intermediate level courses provide information that builds on knowledge practitioners with some experience already have. These courses focus on skill-building or adding knowledge, possibly following a brief overview of basic information, and involve using information in concrete situations and understanding the underlying structure of the material.
Advanced level courses provide content for participants who have been working in the content area and have a clear understanding of the issues. These courses cover and address the complexities involved in the work and involve synthesizing material to create new patterns or structures or evaluating material for a specific purpose.

- Upon completing the webinar, you will have access to the CE quiz within the course you are taking. Find the CE quiz and click “purchase.” NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $25 processing fee to access the quiz.
- A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
- Upon passing the CE quiz, you will be required to complete the survey evaluation for the course. Once that is completed, your CE certificate will be immediately available to print.
