Description
This webinar will detail the Recovery Movie Meet-ups mutual help format, and the innovative motivational enhancements it can generate in the cognitive experiential process of change for individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs). The Recovery Movie Meet-ups format involves in-group viewing and discussion of carefully chosen films featuring characters with SUDs, as well as storylines and themes about recovery. The program is centered around discussions guided by a 190-page printed workbook that features a study guide to 20 films. The workbook includes discussion questions that participants can fill out during or after meetings as further integration of lessons learned in-group and reinforcement of their recovery goals.
Learning Objectives
  • Participants will be able to state the therapeutic value of discussing films about addiction and recovery in mutual support meeting formats.
  • Participants will be able to incorporate the Recovery Movie Meet-Ups program into their therapeutic practices.
  • Participants will be able to use films to augment their recovery discussions with clients for maximum therapeutic benefit and longer-lasting periods of abstinence.
