Social Determinants on the Local Level: Housing and Health

This webinar will explore the relationship between housing and health and ways to assess housing as a social determinant in your community. Housing stability, quality, safety, and affordability all affect health outcomes. Poor-quality housing is associated with various negative health outcomes, including infectious disease and psychological distress. This webinar will discuss specific quality affordable housing strategies that can lead to improvements in physical and mental health. In this webinar, we will 1) relate housing and health; 2) discuss the Healthy People 2020 Social Determinants of health framework; 3) explore how housing and health can be incorporated into the community health assessment process; and 4) identify national and local data sources for an assessment of housing, drawing from Urban Institute’s National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership.
