Syndromic Surveillance and Rapid Assessment and Response

This course will cover syndromic surveillance and Rapid Assessment and Response (RAR). We will discuss how to conduct syndromic surveillance and how the RAR team at NYC DOHMH utilizes real-time data to conduct investigations and design targeted public health responses to drug-related outbreaks.

The learning objectives for this course are:

  • Explain how syndromic surveillance serves as an early warning system for drug-related emergency department visits.

  • Compare two approaches to analyzing and interpreting syndromic data: daily analysis and trend analysis.

  • Describe the five steps of an RAR investigation.

  • Integrate the RAR model into your local research and surveillance activities.
