Briefing: OCR's NPRM on Title IX

On June 23, 2022, the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights published an unofficial version of its Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on Title IX. As anticipated, this NPRM seeks to make changes to the current regulations which took effect in 2020 by proposing an expanded definition of hostile environment sexual harassment, revising compliance obligations with respect to the investigation and resolution of misconduct allegations, and expanding protections for the LGBTQ+ community, among other things.

In this 45-minute, audio-only briefing from the 2022 Annual Conference, NACUA members Hope Murphy-Tyehimba (Johns Hopkins), Patty Petrowski (University of Michigan), and Josh Richards (Saul Ewing LLP), will offer a brief overview of the proposed regulations and highlight some of the most significant areas of departure from existing regulations.
