We will review and analyze case studies that apply the rules and principles learned. We will identify best practices for compliance and discuss the benefits and pitfalls of the various IRS voluntary disclosure programs for noncompliant taxpayers.

This course is intended as a capstone to the Basic Foreign Topics program and will incorporate at least two case studies and elements of the learning objectives listed below.

  • Demonstrate Foreign taxation knowledge through practical application, case studies, and examples
  • Understand and apply best practices for foreign income and asset reporting compliance
  • Understand potential penalties and liability of the taxpayer and tax preparer for foreign income and asset reporting compliance
  • Understand the benefits and pitfalls of the IRS voluntary disclosure program
