This course will explain the common investment income types including bank interest, Treasury interest, dividends, distributed capital gains, capital gains on sales, bonds, and more. While many of these are straight forward from a tax perspective, others have some intricacies. While many clients participate in these, they do not necessarily understand what constitutes income and how it is (or isn’t) taxed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the investment income types.
  • Interpret the taxable aspect in a manner that will help your clients understand their return.
  • Compare taxable and tax-exempt income.
  • Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of recognizing savings bond interest as earned.
