This session will delve into the strategies which allow tax breaks on all types of investments. Discussions on how to lower AGI or tax will include opportunity zones, unlimited gifting ideas for married seniors, contributing appreciated assets to charities or DAFs (donor-advised funds), converting RMDs to QCDs, Oil & Gas Partnerships with 1st-year General Partner status, and fee-simple conservation easements. We will also learn to identify the additional 3.8% NIIT (net investment income tax) and the 28% collectibles tax rate. Ideas will be offered on how to combat these higher tax rates.

  • Understand Opportunity Zones and how they can benefit taxpayers
  • Determine when NIIT applies
  • Detect opportunities to reduce taxes and what strategies to employ

    Ben Tallman is an NTPI Fellow with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Ben has taught for many years at local, state, and national organizations. He has served on the NAEA Education Foundation and is a prior GAEA education director. Ben is a regular on Tax Talk Today and has conducted numerous webinars and podcasts over the years. He is a US Tax Court practitioner and writes articles of interest for the NAEA & NATP Journals. Ben operates a tax practice and representation business in Atlanta.
