This program will lead you through estate tax preparation from date of death to estate termination. This case study will apply the knowledge acquired in the previous sessions and show its application to a real-life example.

Learning Objectives:

  • Determine filing requirements and due dates for an estate.
  • Be able to prepare Form 706.
  • Be able to prepare Form 1041.
  • Be able to make the appropriate elections.
  • Assist your clients in estate administration and termination.

    Laura entered the accounting field in 1999. In 2018, she joined Blackman and Sloop as a Senior Tax Associate. Today, she serves the firm as a Senior Tax Manager. In this capacity, Laura specializes in working on tax engagements for estates, trusts, and high net worth individuals.

    With more than two decades of experience, Laura is an enormous asset to the firm and her clients. She is a thoughtful, kind, and trustworthy professional who always manages to maintain a positive attitude. Laura considers her clients to be her extended family, and without them, her career simply would not be possible. She attributes her career success to her family, friends, and coworkers, all of whom guided her and helped shape her into the individual that she is today.

    Originally from Graham, North Carolina, Laura currently lives in Burlington with her husband, Anthony. They have two sons, Gabe and Grayson, and a Labrador Retriever named Maverick. Laura loves Burlington because of its smalltown atmosphere—everyone knows everyone. Outside of the office, Laura loves spending time with her family and friends. When she has the opportunity to travel, she loves going to Florida to visit Disney, Universal Studios, and the beaches.

    As a law professor, Donna taught a wide range of tax law courses, as well as estates and trusts and property law. She volunteered as a tax preparer and reviewer with IRS certification at the Advanced level plus Schedule C, Cancellation of Debt, Health Savings Account, and Military certifications. She also prepared tax returns for middle to high income clients of a CPA firm.

    Now, as the owner of Ash Creek Tax and Legal Services in Independence, Oregon, Donna prepares tax returns, represent taxpayers before the IRS and the Oregon Department of Revenue, and prepare wills and trusts. Her clients are individuals, businesses, and tax-exempt organizations.

    Donna is well credentialed: IRS Enrolled Agent, Oregon Licensed Tax Consultant, Oregon Attorney, and Oregon Notary Public. LTC #C-907103. Also, licensed Zumba instructor and (lapsed) Level 2 PSIA Ski instructor.
