Course Description
This 50-minute program covers common issues that arise in federal tax practice when dealing with clients who are under examination by or owe money to the Internal Revenue Service.

Learning Objectives
  • Properly identifying and framing the type of tax problem that a client is facing.
  • Identifying potential resolution complications proactively and setting client expectations based on the limits of IRS resolution programs or employee or program specific authority for resolution.
  • ystematically scope out tax resolution cases and onboard them in a manner that is legally and ethical compliant while acknowledging the limits of the practitioner’s knowledge and when it may be appropriate to refer it elsewhere.
Presenters


Geoff Plourde, JD, EA, CPA
Geoff is an enrolled agent, attorney, and certified public accountant who specializes in resolving complex tax issues. He is an active member of the California Society of Enrolled Agents (currently state director and state education committee vice chair) and the National Association of Enrolled Agents. He was named a Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute in 2015 after completing a rigorous program of advanced study in tax problem resolution. He has an MST from Golden Gate University, a JD from Southwestern Law School, and an MBA from the University of Southern California.
