Course Description
The IRS Passport Program: Collections’ new tool for severely delinquent tax debt.

This 100 minute program covers common issues that arise in federal tax practice when dealing with clients who have been certified by the IRS to the State Department for passport application denial and potential issues with IRS efforts to revoke currently held passports. 

Learning Objectives
  • Understanding the historical development and basis for the FAST Act which established the IRS Passport Program.
  • Identifying clients who are subject to the IRS Passport Program and preparing a plan for resolution of their outstanding tax liabilities.
  • Understanding current IRS policies and procedures related to systematic and expedited decertification including qualification criteria.
  • Understanding potential consequences of default on collection alternatives set up to remove a taxpayer from the IRS Passport Program.
Presenters



Geoffrey Plourde, EA, JD, CPA
Geoff is an enrolled agent, attorney, and certified public accountant who specializes in resolving complex tax issues. He is an active member of the California Society of Enrolled Agents (currently state director and state education committee vice chair) and the National Association of Enrolled Agents. He was named a Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute in 2015 after completing a rigorous program of advanced study in tax problem resolution. He has an MST from Golden Gate University, a JD from Southwestern Law School, and an MBA from the University of Southern California.
