This session will a hands-on discussion and analysis of a real-world tax case for foreign investments in the U.S.(INBOUND). A foreign individual with multiple U.S. investments, including remote transactions, a continuous operation in the U.S. and even investments in U.S. real estate, will be some of the topics that will be reviewed. The session will provide a framework to analyze such complex case and will also provide guidance on the forms that may be required to be completed by a tax preparer.

Learning Objectives:
After attending the session, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify international tax topics that may be relevant to foreign investments in the U.S.
  • Determine a plan of action to tackle complex inbound international tax scenarios.
  • Identify and complete relevant tax forms related to foreign investments in the U.S.

    Anuar Estafan's practice focuses on the international tax consequences of cross-border investments, in the planning, transactional, and controversy contexts. Mr. Estefan has broad experience with international tax planning, controversy and compliance, and commonly advises clients on a variety of U.S. international tax issues including the application of U.S. anti-deferral regimes, foreign tax credit planning, and tax treaty planning. Mr. Estefan has successfully represented clients in audits before federal and state tax authorities, and in litigation in Tax Court, working in cases involving international tax issues.

    Mr. Estefan provides highly specialized advice and guidance to clients by designing corporate structures for U.S. investors doing business in Latin America, and foreign investors doing business in the U.S.

    Mr. Estefan also advises multinational families with tax planning, succession planning and wealth preservation strategies.
