In the NAEYC book, "Serious Fun: How Guided Play Extends Children's Learning," more than a dozen authors—teachers, teacher educators, researchers, consultants—share their thoughts and the research on intentionally planned, playful activities that enhance children’s knowledge and skills. By providing guidance for teachers on interacting with children during play, they illustrate how carefully evaluating your teaching practices and embedding meaningful play opportunities into rigorous and developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) can result in deep, rich learning for children. This module will highlight the main points of, "Serious Fun," with an emphasis on executive function skills and encouraging teachers to take on the role of a researcher while in the classroom.
