Program Overview
School nurses are motivated and passionate advocates for student and employee sexuality education yet may have no preparation in their primary nursing programs nor in their specialty preparation in sexuality content. In addition, the literature and materials in this domain are expanding rapidly. This series of four video modules and accompanying resources will present evidence-based interventions and strategies to prepare school nurses for promoting evidence-based sexuality education and interventions strategies.

Learning Objectives
At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to:

  • Explore myths and facts concerning teens’ sexual behaviors;
  • Discuss ways to address unhealthy risk taking;
  • Identify best practice and evidence-based programs that have been shown to reduce risk taking;
  • Explore healthy child and adolescent development;
  • Examine one’s personal beliefs and values;
  • Explore best practices and promising programs;
  • Verbalize the layers of sexual identity, biology, anatomy, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation;
