Program Overview
Cristina will share her experience as an undocumented immigrant student and how school personnel encouraged AND discouraged her throughout her school journey. She will also share examples from the United We Dream membership which mirror hers and which should help the audience to understand how they can encourage all students to thrive.As a national expert on immigration reform and politics, Cristina will break down the complex political and policy situation facing the nation and present a way forward.In this confusing and turbulent time, young people of color are facing a host of economic, psychological and social challenges which call on all people to step up for the next generation of leaders.

Learning Outcomes
As a result of participating in this educational activity, learners will be able to:
  • Gain an understanding of the complex role undocumented people play in an often rigged immigration system.
  • Have actionable examples of how to foster an environment of trust with students regardless of their immigration status.
  • Cut through the misinformation to hear what life is like for undocumented people today.

Intended Audience

This continuing education program is a knowledge-based activity developed to meet the educational needs of registered nurses who are interested in child and adolescent health.
