Program Overview
The purpose of this educational activity is to enable the learner to understand the epidemic of opiate abuse in the U.S. and the devastating impact of addiction on families and school communities. The learner will gain knowledge on obtaining prevention resources and the effectiveness of nurse partnerships with grassroots and national organizations, health departments, and community coalitions.

Learning Objectives
At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
  • Describe the growing opiate epidemic,
  • Identify resources for school communities to utilize in addressing the prevention of addiction, and
  • Explain how to search for treatment referrals.
Intended Audience
This continuing education program is a knowledge-based activity developed to meet the educational needs of registered nurses who are interested in child and adolescent health.
