Program Overview
To improve student health and academic outcomes, school nurses must recognize their leadership potential in the provision of health services at the school/district level, their role in supporting school nurse organizations/affiliates at the state level, and ultimately reinforcing the voice of school nursing at the national level. Attendees will identify where they are on their leadership path through evaluation and self‐reflection using current leadership theory tools. They will hear the leadership story of a past NASN president and will learn how to share their own leadership priorities and vision. The Leadership Principal in NASN’s Framework for 21st Century School Nursing Practice will be explored in depth, as attendees will better understand their role in advocacy, education and policy reform, professionalism, and systems‐level leadership. Examples will be provided of other influential nurse and school nurse leaders who have embraced their role and helped shape the future.
