Program Overview
Oral Health 101 for School Nurses presents an overview of oral health and oral health concerns in early childhood. Dental screenings and dental injuries in the school settings will be discussed as well as the link between oral health and Coordinated School Health.

Learning Objectives
At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
  • Identify the four types of dental tissue in the tooth and be able to identify normal, healthy teeth as well as those in various states of decay,
  • Discuss the supplies and appropriate steps needed to perform a dental screening in the school setting, and
  • Identify 1 – 2 ways that each member of the Coordinate School Health Team can support oral health.

Intended Audience
This continuing education program is a knowledge-based activity developed to meet the educational needs of registered nurses who are interested in child and adolescent health.
