Since the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Institute of Medicine challenged nurses to become the change agents that will transform the sick care system into a health care system, nurses are being sought to take their place at the leadership table. However, the juggling of family and workplace obligations often result in nurses being distracted from investing in the time and energy required to identify career goals and create the map to achieve them. Later, some nurses experience regrets about roads not taken and do not have the professional or experiential foundation required to fulfill influential career opportunities as they arise. This educational activity will assure that you assess the professional strengths and development you need to be ready for future challenges and career opportunities. Participants will explore their goals and potential pathways to achieving them. Each participant will establish short and long term goals and create action plans to meet those career milestones. Participants will take the steps needed to create a map that will pave the way to an intentional career, as opposed to an accidental career.
As a result of participating in this educational activity, learners will be able to
- Identify gaps in professional development and experiences that could thwart achieving career goals.
- Create short-term and long-term career goals.
- Develop an action plan to meet career goals.
This continuing education program is a knowledge-based activity developed to meet the educational needs of registered nurses who are interested in professional career advancement and legacy mapping.
