Program Overview
The past few years America has been working on addressing the massive opioid crisis that is plaguing our communities and harming children and families. Due to frequent overdoses, accidental deaths and first-responder exposures to potentially lethal doses of illicit drugs in the community setting, leading school nurses to address this crisis head-on. In this general session we will have a panel discussion to explore a multi-disciplinary approach to how the school nurse can impact policy changes and educate families in the school community on prevention strategies. Listen to local Maryland leaders and how they are tackling this situation in their communities.

Learning Outcomes
As a result of participating in this educational activity, learners will be able to
  • Identify key strategies for addressing opioid crisis in the school setting.
  • Identify interdisciplinary team members for the school nurse to promote care coordination in relation to addiction and prevention.
Intended Audience
This continuing education program is a knowledge-based activity developed to meet the educational needs of registered nurses who are interested in grassroots advocacy, policy development and prevention education.
