Program Overview
This educational activity will discuss the impacts including the causes, prevalence, location and consequences that chronic absenteeism has on schools and school climates in Public Schools in the United States. We will identify the direct link that absenteeism has on academic success and what can be done to help keep students achieving and in the classroom. Dr. Balfanz will share what the newest evidence-based research tells us and provide best practice approaches to decrease student chronic absenteeism through an interdisciplinary approach. School nurses will learn how they can influence and assist school administrative staff and parents in recapturing these students and keeping them in school, in their seats and ready to learn.
