Donald Shannon
Don is a Project Management Institute credentialed Project Management Professional (PMP) and a NCMA CFCM and CPCM. He is a graduate of Saint Leo University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Master’s in Logistics Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology. Don retired from the Air Force in 1990 following 23-years of service and went on to a 23-year career in project management and contract management in the commercial sector.
For the past fifteen years Don has been active with the Rio Grande Chapter in various roles leading their FAR study group and the teaching the Headquarters NCMA test prep study groups for CFCM and CPCM certifications. Don operates a consulting practice as The Contract Coach (www.contract-coach.com) where he helps emerging small businesses with contractual matters including training and proposal support.
His negotiation experience includes numerous Fixed Price and Cost Reimbursement contracts or change orders with values ranging from a few thousand to well over $100 million
He is a prolific writer with articles in the NCMA Contract Management Magazine and the Journal of Contract Management as well as producing two NCMA National Educational Seminars to his credit. He is the winner of the 2014 Berger Award from NCMA National and was an Honorable Mention in the 2015 W. Gregor Macfarlan Excellence in Contract Management Research and Writing Program in the category of Professional Research.
His present interests are in Qualitative Risk Management, Integrated Project Management, and Cybersecurity with research and writing projects underway in each of these categories. Don is a recognized speaker at national level conferences and seminars such as NCMA World Congress and the Government Contract Pricing Summit as well as webinars and online classes.
